Rossville man charged in connection with August 2020 crash that killed two in Walker County

According to Walker County Jail records, a Austin Cooper, 23, of Rossville, was charged by the Georgia State Patrol with homicide by vehicle 2nd degree x2 and driving too fast for conditions in connection with a August 2020 fatal crash that killed two in Walker County. According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on August 14th, 2020 about 5:00 p.m. on Highway 2 near Dewberry Road Cooper was driving a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup east on Highway 2. Cooper crossed the median and hit a 2009 Chevy HHR head-on as it was traveling west. The Chevy HHR was driven by Theresa King, 51, of Greer, South Carolina, and the passenger was James McGill, 42, of Rossville. King’s HHR spun counter-clockwise and stopped in the right lane on the westbound side of the highway, while Cooper’s Chevy continued east in the same lane and hit a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by Erika Edwards, 35, of Flintstone. Edwards was taken to an area hospital. King and McGill were both pronounced dead at the scene by Walker County Coroner Dewayne Wilson, while Cooper was taken to Erlanger hospital with serious injuries. Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and conducted a follow-up investigation into the crash.
