Shannon man arrested again for DUI after speeding on the Armuchee Connector in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, Officer Puckett was patrolling on the Armuchee Connector near 3 Mile Road. Officer Puckett reported, “As [I] traveled south just north of the intersection, [I] observed a vehicle traveling north at a high rate of speed which [I] visually estimated to be around 65mph. [I] activated the radar unit in my patrol vehicle, which indicated that the vehicle was traveling at 68mph. The speed limit on the Armuchee Connector is 45mph. [I] slowed my patrol vehicle and activated my emergency lights, and waited for the vehicle to pass so that [I] could initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. As the vehicle passed, [I] could see that it was a 2007 Hyundai Entourage.” The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which continued to travel north for a short distance before coming to a stop. According to the report, the van was still sitting approximately halfway in the lane of travel when it came to a stop. The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Thomas Strickland, 23, of Shannon. Officer Puckett reported, “Thomas appeared extremely nervous while speaking with me. [I] also observed Thomas’ eye’s to appear watery, and [I] could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from inside of the vehicle. [I] asked Thomas if he had been drinking alcoholic beverages, and he replied no. [I] asked Thomas if there had been any alcoholic beverages in the vehicle to his knowledge. Thomas looked around and said, “not to my knowledge.” During field sobriety testing, Thomas showed several clues of impairment and then admitted to drinking three beers approximately two hours prior to driving.Thomas was placed under arrest for DUI. According to the report, “Thomas was read the Georgia Implied Consent Notice, and he agreed. Thomas was transported to the Floyd County Jail charged with speeding and DUI. According to arrest records, Thomas has several previous arrests for DUI.
