Sheriff Steve Wilson: “Aggressive driving” results in man being fatally shot in Walker County Tuesday night

Walker County detectives will not be filing charges at this time against the man who fired the shot in last evening’s deadly aggressive driving incident at 15 Garretts Chapel Road, Chickamauga, Georgia. Detectives met and consulted with District Attorney Chris Arnt this morning. Upon the recommendation of DA Arnt, detectives will complete the investigation and submit the findings to the District Attorney’s office. Detectives determined that the aggressive driving encounter between the motorcycles and the SUV began east of Chickamauga on Lee Clarkson Road and continued onto Highway 341, ending at the Dollar General Store parking lot where the shooting occurred. The deceased has been identified as Danny Douglas Claire, age 53, of Chickamauga. The man who fired the weapon has been identified as Jeremy Dewayne McCrary, age 43, of Chickamauga. There is no evidence the men knew each other. The name of the other motorcyclist, who was a witness to the shooting, is not being released. Mr. Claire’s body has been transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, Georgia, for an autopsy.

An aggressive driving incident south of the City of Chickamauga, Georgia Tuesday evening around 7:20 p.m., has led to the death of one Chickamauga man, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson. The deadly incident involved three men; two driving motorcycles (sports bikes) and the deceased man driving a SUV, the Sheriff said. According to witnesses the three vehicles were southbound on GA Highway 341 and came to a stop in the Dollar General Store parking lot at 15 Garretts Chapel Road., Chickamauga, GA. Immediately the men engaged in a scuffle and one man fired his 9mm weapon striking the man driving the truck in the chest. The gunshot victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The two men driving the motorcycles have been arrested and transported to the Walker County Jail.
