According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on September 4th, 2021 at approximately 6:49 PM, Deputy Halpin was dispatched to 1623 Abutment Road in reference to a male subject that was sitting in the driver seat of a vehicle unresponsive. According to the report, “Upon arrival Deputy Halpin noticed Mr. Brandon Michael Bearden, 35, of Sugar Valley, GA sitting in his vehicle with a lady trying to get him to wake up. Deputy Halpin noticed Mr. Bearden was unable to keep his eyes open when asked to open them. Deputy Halpin also noticed a pill bottle of Lorazepam 1mg with Mr. Bearden’s name on it beside him an opened bottle of Jack Daniels in the front passenger seat.” Deputy Halpin then talked to the woman and advised she was traveling North on Abutment and noticed three small children on the side of the road waving their hands, trying to get somebody’s attention. The concerned citizen stated she immediately turned around and approached the kids. According to the report, The kids said their daddy (Mr. Bearden) would not wake up. She stated she went over to the vehicle and noticed Mr. Bearden did not have his eyes open. She stated she opened the vehicle door, and she saw Mr. Bearden was cool, clammy, and unresponsive. She stated the vehicle was still in drive, and she was able to put it in park.” According to the report, the three small kids advised the deputy they were driving with their daddy (Mr. Bearden) in the back seat and stated their daddy had been drinking earlier and asked him to pull the vehicle over when they noticed daddy was not driving right. According to the report, “Deputy Halpin went to Hamilton Medical Center to read Implied Consent to Mr. Bearden, which he refused. Deputy Halpin ran Mr. Bearden through NCIC and noticed he had a suspended license.” On January 24th, 2022, Bearden was booked into the Whitfield County Jail on warrants for driving with a suspended license, DUI, and Child Endangerment DUI x3.
