Summerville felon found in possession of firearm after being stopped for hands-free law in Rome

According to a Rome Police Department incident report, on February 3rd, 2021, Joshua Benton Riley, 37, of Summerville, was stopped for being on his cellphone while driving down Martha Berry Blvd. According to the report, while conducting the traffic stop, officers located a firearm in his vehicle. It was discovered that Riley is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess the weapon. Riley was transported to the Floyd County Jail charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and distracted hands-free law violation.
