Summerville man arrested for DUI during checkpoint in Chattooga County

According to a Chattooga County Sheriffs Office incident report, Late Saturday night, deputies were set up at a safety checkpoint in the area of Penn Bridge Road. A dark Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Mark Alan Evans, 58, of Summerville, GA, pulled up and deputies asked Evans for his information. Deputies observed an opened beer can sitting between Evans’ legs, which led to Evans’ being asked to exit his truck Evans also smelled of alcohol and admitted to consuming, “two or three beers,” that night. Evans showed signs of impairment in his field sobriety test, blew a positive result on an alco-sensor test and refused to provide a blood sample. He was placed into custody. Evans was booked into the Chattooga County Jail, charged with DUI and open container violation.
