The pursuit then made a left turn onto Georgia 1, where a FOPD Officer joined in behind the officer. The trooper reported, “While traveling through the construction zone, [I] observed the driver of the motorcycle traveling in excess speeds of 100 MPH. Due to traffic and using due regard at all intersections, the motorcycle was able to gain distance on me, however [I] never lost a visual of him.” The pursuit continued traveling through the Chickamauga National Park as Roberson passed several more vehicles on a double yellow line in a no-passing zone. According to the report, “Roberson drove extremely reckless throughout the pursuit with no regard for the motoring public’s safety.” According to the crash report, Roberson was attempting to avoid capture and was traveling southbound on LaFayette Road through the Chickamauga National Battlefield. Roberson was negotiating a curve near GA-1 at a high rate of speed and in a reckless manner when he lost control. The motorcycle exited the east side of the roadway, striking a concrete curb. The motorcycle began overturning for approximately 82 feet before striking another concrete curb. After this impact, the motorcycle continued overturning approximately 75 more feet before coming to an uncontrolled final rest. The front portion of the motorcycle detached and struck a concrete pillar coming to an uncontrolled final rest. Roberson struck a metal dumpster before coming to a final rest in close proximity to the final rest of the motorcycle. The pursuit continued traveling through the Chickamauga National Park as Roberson passed several more vehicles on a double yellow line in a no-passing zone. According to the report, “Roberson drove extremely reckless throughout the pursuit with no regard for the motoring public’s safety.” The trooper immediately notified to have EMS respond emergency traffic to the location of the crash. Trooper attempted to keep the driver calm and gave first aid until EMS arrived on the scene. According to the report, “Also by running the motorcycles VIN number through all states, it was later confirmed to be stolen out of Chattanooga, TN. Roberson succumbed to his injuries obtained during the crash and was pronounced deceased by Erlanger Medical Center at 6:00 AM.” The report listed a witness who was negotiating the curve to the left on Lafayette Road when the motorcycle crashed only feet in front of him. According to the report, “Fort Oglethorpe Police Department was also able to obtain video footage from an unknown bystander’s Snapchat recording him riding the wheelies and driving excessive speeds while “taunting” them.” Troop A SCRT also assisted with the crash.
