Tennessee man arrested after pursuit ends in crash Thursday afternoon in LaFayette

On January 14th, 2020, at around 3:46 PM, a Walker County detective observed a Toyota with a Tennessee tag jump a curb and run the red light at Villanow Street at the Bypass in LaFayette. Marked patrol deputies caught up to the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver for reckless driving along with other traffic violations. The suspected DUI driver fled, initiating a pursuit with deputies down Corinth Road. The Tennessee man, who was unfamiliar with the road and area, crashed through a fence while negotiating a curve near Dry Creek Road. The 58-year-old man who hasn’t been identified yet was into custody without incident. Deputies located an open container in the vehicle, as well as a brand new Milwaukee tool bag with new DEWALT Power Tools inside. The man admitted to having just shoplifted the items from Ace Hardware in LaFayette. The man was booked into the Walker County Jail on charges of DUI, felony fleeing, reckless driving, theft by shoplifting, open container, and a list of traffic-related charges. Walker County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy Schrader and partner Anzo also assisted other deputies. We will have more information once it is released.
