Tennessee man arrested after severely beating woman inside Gordon County home

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Sunday, November 7th, 2021, at 1:28 AM, Deputy Shipman was dispatched to an address on Peachtree Lane in reference to a female who had been beaten severely and showed up a person house. The complainant stated that the female victim rang his doorbell and told him to call the police ASAP. He stated that he let her into his residence for safety and called 911. According to the report, “The deputy observed the victim to have both of her eyes severely swollen and bruised, along with a large cut above her left eye.” She advised the deputy that Anthony Jason Cox, 38, of Lavergne, TN, invited her over to hang out. She stated while they were hanging out, Cox began violently beating her. She stated that she attempted to escape the residence several times throughout the night, but Cox would grab her and not let her leave. She stated that Cox violently kicked her in the face several times and also shoved her into the shower that was running scalding hot water. According to the report, “She stated that she attempted to scream for help several times, but Cox would turn the T.V. up so that her screams could not be heard. She stated that she was finally able to escape and ran across the street to the neighbor’s house.” After speaking to the victim, the deputy went across the street and spoke to Mr. Cox’s mother and stepfather. Who were not willing to give much information and advised they had not seen or heard anything. On July 8th, 2022, Cox was booked into the Gordon County Jail on warrants for aggravated assault, aggravated battery, criminal trespass, false imprisonment and failure to appear.
