Tennessee man arrested for DUI after crashing into two large road signs on I-75 in Catoosa County

According to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On June 24th, 2022, at approximately 11:20 PM, Deputy Brogdon got out with a 2001 Toyota Camry on the southbound side of the median on Interstate 75 just south of the state line. Deputy Brogdon could see that the vehicle was heavily damaged. East Ridge Police were already on the scene and had the driver identified as Demetrius D. Phillips, 23, of Tennessee, in handcuffs. East Ridge officers advised Phillips had begun to get very confrontational. According to the report, “A witness who had seen the crash said that Phillips had been driving in the northbound center lane when he suddenly veered to the left. He said that Phillips went through an opening in the guard rail and into the median where he continued northbound, striking two road signs before coming to rest.” ERPD officer said Phillips had admitted that he was “a little drunk,” Phillips said that he had drank “three or four shots of Jack Daniel’s, two 7 oz Coronas, and one and a half 7 oz Modelos.” Deputy Brogdon was able to observe two large road signs that could also be observed to have been knocked down. According to the report, “Deputy Brogdon could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Phillips asked, “How do you know I’ve been drinking?” Deputy Brogdon reminded him about listing the drinks he had consumed. Phillips replied, “I told you about the Coronas? And I told you about the Modelos?” During a search of the vehicle, deputies located marijuana inside a bag. Phillips agreed to the state testing of his blood and was transported to the Catoosa County Jail, charged with DUI, driving without a valid license, failure to maintain a single lane, and possession of marijuana.
