Tennessee man arrested for DUI after crashing on Highway 201 in Whitfield County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, on September 18th, 2022, at 9:01 AM, Corporal Langham responded to a single-vehicle crash on GA 201, east of Mt. Vernon Road. Trooper Langham observed a gray in color Nissan Altima in a yard at 579 Lafayette Road, and the vehicle was facing east. Whitfield County Fire Department Fireman Beavers advised the trooper that the driver, identified as Matthew Stamm, 33, of Cleveland, TN, was transported to Hamilton Medical Center. Fireman Beavers also advised that the driver advised him that he had stopped drinking around 3:00 AM. Corporal Langham reported, “[I] gathered the information for a Vehicle Crash Report, and [I] noticed that inside the vehicle had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. As [I] entered room #23 at Hamilton Medical Center, [I] noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Mr. Stamm was the only person in room #23. [I] then asked Mr. Stamm what happened, and Mr. Stamm advised that he had fallen asleep, and he had not been asleep. While Mr. Stamm was talking, [I] noticed the following about Mr. Stamm, odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, watery, glassy, and bloodshot eyes, and his speech was slow.” Stamm showed a BAC of .115 on PBT and agreed to the state test. After Stamm was released from the hospital, he was transported to the Whitfield County Jail. Stamm was charged with DUI and failure to maintain a single lane.
