According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On February 3rd, 2022, at 9:38 PM, Officer J. Wright and Officer Stanfield responded to the area of 2535 Foster’s Bend Road in reference to a vehicle that was stuck in a ditch. According to the report, “Upon arrival Officer J. Wright approached the driver side to make contact with the driver. Officer J. Wright was able to make contact with Austin Glynn Carver, 25, Lafayette, TN. The vehicle was a yellow Penske box truck.” Officer Stanfield reported, “[I] continued to speak with Carver, who exhibited signs of nervousness. While speaking with Carver, [I] observed his speech to be a little slow. His speech was not slurred. He did not seem confused but kept rubbing on the steering wheel as if he was anxious. Once Carver stepped out of the vehicle, [I] could immediately smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the car.” During field sobriety tests, Craver showed several signs of alcohol impairment and showed the presence of alcohol on a PBT. Officer Stanfield reported, “Due to all the above clues and the presence of alcohol, [I] made the decision to place Carver under arrest. Inside the vehicle’s passenger side floorboard, [I] located a blue cooler. Inside the cooler was a bottle of “apple moonshine” that was missing approximately three-quarters of the liquid inside. The cooler also had a water bottle and unopened bottles of another alcoholic beverage.” Craver was then transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with DUI and open container violation.
