Tennessee man arrested for DUI child endangerment after speeding on I-75 in Gordon County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, “On Thursday, July 22nd, 2021, at approximately 7:46 PM, Trooper Haney observed a brown GMC Acadia traveling north on I-75 near mile marker 310 in the left lane that appeared to be traveling faster than the posted speed limit of 70 mph. Trooper Haney reported, “[I] activated my Stalker XLR speed detection device and obtained a speed of 89 mph. [I] came in contact with the driver identified as Sammy Lee Gibson, 35, of Hickory Valley, TN. While talking to Mr. Gibson, [I] could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and noticed his speech was slurred. [I] also noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery. [I] asked Mr. Gibson how much he had to drink, and he stated, “he drank some last night”. [I] asked Mr. Gibson when the last time had a drink, and he stated around 3-4 in the morning. Mr. Gibson did eventually advise that he had a drink earlier in the day.” According to the report, Gibson agreed to perform Standardized Field Sobriety by saying “yes.” Gibson showed several clues of impairment. Gibson was asked if he if he would give a breath sample on a preliminary breath test, and he refused by saying, “no, I know it’s going to show it’s in my system.” Gibson was placed under arrest for DUI, and read her Georgia Implied Consent Notice. According to the report, Gibson verbally refused by saying “no.” Gibson was transported to the Gordon County Jail, charged with DUI Driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI – endangering the life of a child while DUI, and speeding. The vehicle was turned over to the passenger Vanessa Jones.
