According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, FCPD Investigators continued to conduct proactive investigations to find child predators who use social media platforms to find children for sex. The Investigator reported, “In August 2020, [I] began receiving messages from Thomas Edward Brackett, 63 of Athens, Tennessee. During this time [I] was portraying a 14-year-old girl. On numerous occasions, [I] told Brackett [I] was 14-years-old.” According to the report, “The conversations with Brackett were very sexual in nature with Brackett describing graphic sex acts he wanted to engage in with who he believed to be a child. Brackett even sent picture of an erect penis he stated was his and sent two pornographic videos during the time they communicated. On August 20th, 2022, he traveled all the way from his home in Tennessee to Floyd County to meet with who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl for sex acts that would have been aggravated child molestation. During his arrest, he was found to be in possession of three Clonazepam pills. Brackett was booked into the Floyd County Jail, charged with aggravated child molestation, electronically furnishing obscene materials to a child, computer pornography, obscene internet contact with a child, sexual exploitation of a child, and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.
