Tennessee man gives Catoosa County deputy false name and information during DUI arrest in Rossville

According to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On May 22nd, 2022, at approximately 5:32 AM, Corporal Cantrell was dispatched to the area of Circle Drive in Rossville in reference to an unknown subject driving in the complainant’s yard. According to the report, “Upon arrival, Corporal Cantrell made contact with the driver identified as Saul Cavazos, 27, and could immediately smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from the Cavazos’s breath and person. Cavazos’s eyes appeared bloodshot and watery. Cavazos was unsteady on his feet.” According to the report, Corporal Cantrell asked Cavazos what he was doing, and he was unable to give a clear answer. Cavazos was then asked his name, and he stated it was “Noel Lopez,” and his date of birth was “March 1, 2001”. Catoosa County 911 was unable to get Cavazos to return, so Corporal Cantrell then asked him if he had been arrested before and he stated he had been arrested in Calhoun. According to the report, “Corporal Cantrell then asked dispatch to contact Calhoun PD and see if they had any information on the subject, and they stated that a subject by that name and date of birth had been arrested there for driving without a license.” Cavazos stated he lost his license and that he had only one beer to drink prior to driving. Cavazos then stated he drove there from Chattanooga. During field sobriety testing, Cavazos showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .157 on a PBT. Corporal Cantrell then made contact with the complainant, who stated they observed Cavazos in the driver’s seat, and he appeared very intoxicated. They also advised they did not wish to prosecute for the damage done to their yard where the subject had been driving at this time. After arriving at the Catoosa County Jail, a Tennessee ID card was located on Cavazos, and it was learned that the subject’s name was not Noel Lopez. It was, in fact, Saul Cavazos. Cavazos was charged with giving a false name to law enforcement and DUI.
