Trion man cited after head-on crash in Chattooga County leaves several injured

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, at around 10:40 AM, a 2012 Chrysler 200 being driven by Heath Kirk, 25, of Trion, was traveling south on East Halls Valley Road. A 2012 Ford Fusion being driven by Destiny Johnson, 24, of Trion, was traveling north on East Halls Valley Road. According to investigating Trooper Smith, “Kirk was driving on the wrong side of the roadway as the Chrysler crossed the double yellow line into the northbound lane. The front end of the Chrysler impacted the front end of the Ford. The area of impact (indicated by gouge marks) occurred in the northbound lane, 21 inches east of the double yellow line. Kirk indicated that he was arguing (distracted) with his girlfriend when the accident occurred.” After impact, the Chrysler traveled 41 feet into a ditch on the west side of East Halls Valley Road. After impact with the ditch, the Chrysler traveled 26 feet across the roadway, coming to an uncontrolled rest on the east side of the roadway. After impact, the Ford rotated counterclockwise, coming to an uncontrolled rest on the east shoulder of the road. A one-year-old and a 23-year-old in the Chrysler were all injured in the crash and transported to Floyd Medical center by Redmond EMS. Both Johnson and a passenger in the Ford were injured as well. Kirk was issued a citation for driving on the wrong side of the roadway and given a warning.
