According to a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, on November 28th, 2021, at approximately 9:17 AM, Deputy Farmer was dispatched to the Walmart located at 13427 Highway 27 in reference to a shoplifter in custody. According to the report, the deputy spoke to the complainant, asset protection associate. He advised that Crystal McGuire, 36, Summerville, was observed scanning items that rang up as another item that was of lesser value. According to the report, “He further advised that she had also skip scanned some other items. He played the video of Mrs. McGuire using the self check out for the deputy.” Deputy Farmer reported, “[I] observed her bundle t-shirts together and scan one but bag two. Multiple sleepwear sets were bagged together but they were not all scanned. Several sweaters and sweatshirts appeared to be scanned but rang up on the register as a clearance bra or underwear. While watching the video, [I] could see that she was holding something in her hand while scanning those items. At the end of the transaction, [I] could see Mrs. McGuire drop something into the last bag behind the item inside. She then leaves the store, passing all points of sale without paying for the un-scanned items ($140).” McGuire was transported to the Chattooga County Jail, charged with theft by shoplifting.
