Tunnel Hill man arrested for DUI drugs after causing head-on crash in Whitfield County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On October 12th, 2022, at 9:20 AM, TFC3 Chiesa responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Trooper Chiesa spoke to the victim, who said a 2012 Nissan Maxima went through the intersection all crazy and went straight to her. A witness to the crash stated he was traveling south and saw the crash in his rearview mirror. He said the Nissan was traveling north and veered into the south, inside the travel lane, until hitting the victim head-on. Multiple witnesses who stayed on the scene and spoke with the trooper advised the same thing. Trooper Chiesa then made contact with the driver of the Nissan, identified as Jeffery E. Ross, 60, of Tunnel Hill, who was on the stretcher in the ambulance. Trooper Chiesa reported, “He appeared to be in a deep sleep. He was snoring. An EMT woke him up. [I] told him who [I] was. [I] asked Mr. Ross what happened. His speech was mumbled and very difficult to understand. [I] asked him if he took any type of medication. Mr. Ross said anxiety medications. He began trying to tell me the names, but [I] could not understand anything he was trying to say. He was then transported to Hamilton Medical Center.” While on the scene, Mr. Ross’s wife showed up and was very honest with the trooper. She said he was taking several different medications for different issues, and she showed the trooper a long list. Trooper Chiesa took out warrants for his arrest in reference to DUI driving under the influence less safe drugs, and for failure to maintain lane. On October 19th, 2022, Ross was booked into the Whitfield County Jail.
