Tunnel Hill teen arrested for DUI after speeding in Gordon County

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, On October 16th, 2022, at 12:23, Trooper Terry was on patrol on Rome Road near Switch Road when he checked a 2005 Dodge Dakota at 73 MPH in the 55 MPH zone. Trooper Terry initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Calvin Carter Stephenson, 18, Tunnel Hill. Trooper Terry reported, “While [I] was speaking to him, [I] noticed the mild odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. [I] asked him how much he had to drink, and he stated he hadn’t had anything. [I] asked him why he was speeding, and he stated that he was out after his curfew because he had fallen asleep. After checking his information through GCIC, [I] returned to his vehicle and still noticed the strong odor coming from his breath [I] asked him again how much he had to drink because he smelled like beer. He then finally admitted to drinking only one Miller beer. During field sobriety standardized field sobriety tests, Stephenson showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .035 on a PBT. Trooper Terry read Stephenson implied consent for suspects under the age of 21 and requested a blood test. Mr. Stephenson agreed to the blood test. During a search of the truck, the trooper located in a cooler approximately 12 Busch beers, a few Miller beers, and a half-empty bottle of rum. Stephenson was transported to the Gordon County JailI charged with DUI, possession of alcohol by an underage person, and speeding.
