Two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Whitfield County claims the life of 12-year-old boy

According to the Georgia State Patrol public information Lt. Mark Riley, “On Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, at around 7:09 AM, Vehicle #1, a 2013 Toyota Corolla, was traveling south on GA 71 (Cleveland Highway) in the center turn lane near the entrance to Edwards Park and North Whitfield Middle School. Vehicle #2, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling north on GA 71 in the left lane. Driver #1 failed to yield and turned left in front of vehicle #2. As a result, driver #2 hit vehicle #1 on the right side with vehicle #2’s front end.” Driver #1, who was not identified, was transported by EMS to a local hospital. All three juvenile occupants in vehicle #1 were transported by Medical Helicopter to Erlanger in Chattanooga. The crash report is not complete at this time.” According to Whitfield County Coroner Greg Bates, Lucas Welch-Stringfield, 12, died Friday at a hospital in Chattanooga. In a post on North Whitfield Middle School Facebook page, Principal Larry Farner wrote, “Dear Pioneer Families, It is with great sadness that I write to inform our Pioneer community that Lucas Welch-Stringfield, a 7th-grade student at North Whitfield, died this morning due to the injuries he sustained during an automobile accident. Lucas brought great joy to us all each and every day. He will forever be in our hearts, and we ask that you keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
