According to a Dalton Police Department incident, on January 30th, 2021, at approximately 8:15 PM, Officer Johnson was headed east on Underwood Street when he observed a sliver 2005 Toyota 4Runner at the intersection of Elm Street and Underwood Street without the headlights on. According to the report, The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Edgar Efrain Ramirez-Mendez, 28, Dalton, was stopped at the entrance of Parkside Place. Officer Johnson reported, “As [I] contacted Edgar, [I] smelled a strong odor of Acholic beverage coming from his person. [I] informed Edgar that [I] was with the Dalton Police Department, why [I] conducted a traffic stop, and asked him to exit the vehicle. Edgar, being and Hispanic male, stated, “No English.” As Edgar told me this, [I] noticed his speech was heavily slurred.” Officer Herrera arrived on the scene and began to translate for the officer. As Edgar exited his vehicle, the officer noticed he had urinated on himself and had no balance. According to the report, “Officer Herrera asked Edgar if he had drank any alcoholic drinks, to which he replied just two beers. Edgar refused any test to see if he was safe enough to drive. Edgar was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI alcohol less safe, required headlights after sunset, no insurance, and driving unlicensed.
