Unlicensed driver arrested after driving recklessly through red light, nearly crashing into Floyd County officer

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, Officer Puckett was traveling across Turner McCall Blvd from Riverside Pkwy. Officer Puckett reported, “As [I] approached the intersection, [I] was traveling in the only lane designated to travel straight across the intersection. [I] observed the traffic signal for my lane of travel being green. [I] also observed the traffic signal for the left turning lanes turn to red prior to me entering the intersection. As [I] traveled across the intersection from my left mirror, [I] briefly observed a white vehicle moving toward me at a high rate of speed. The vehicle, a white Ram 2500 with utility boxes on the rear, did not stop at the red traffic signal, proceeded through the intersection, and made an improper lane change at the intersection, all while traveling at a high rate of speed. [I] was forced to take evasive action in my patrol vehicle and was able to narrowly avoid collision with the truck.” After avoiding a violent collision, the officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Esteban Nunes Sanchez, 62, of Oxford, Alabama. Officer discovered that Esteban did not have a driver’s license and was driving while unlicensed. Esteban was transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with reckless driving and driving while unlicensed.
