Unlicensed man arrested for DUI after driving at a high rate of speed in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On September 10th, 2022, at 2:10 AM, Officer Sosa was patrolling the area of Lake Street and Fifth Avenue when he noticed the driver of a blue Ford Expedition driving at a high rate of speed and slamming on the brakes to attempt to stop at the four-way stop. The driver, later identified as Jose Ignacio Rojas, 25, of Dalton, ended up passing the white line almost in the middle of the intersection before coming to a full stop. Officer Sosa initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Jose. Officer Sosa reported, “[I] smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle, and [I] then asked Jose if he had been drinking. He stated no, he didn’t drink. [I] then asked him about the open container on the cup holder and the open box of beer in the passenger seat. Then Jose changed his answer to only having two beers. [I] then asked Jose if he had a driver’s license, and he stated he didn’t have a license.”During field sobriety tests, Jose showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .154 on PBT. Jose was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BrAC of .172 on the state test. Jose was charged with DUI and driving without a valid license.
