According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On April 10th, 2022, at 1:58 AM, Officer Marcus observed a gray passenger car with a South Carolina tag weaving over the roadway and driving on the wrong side of the road on Harris Street near Calhoun Street. Officer Marcus reported, “[I] turned on my emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. Before pulling over, the driver struck the curb. [I] made contact with the driver, Israel De Leon Ramirez, 22, of Cedartown. Israel had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Israel also had many scratches and cuts on his elbow, mouth, and a large bump on his forehead. [I] attempted to ask Israel what happened and find out if he needed medical attention. Israel and [I] could not communicate due to him only speaking Spanish and being highly intoxicated.” Officer Castillo arrived on the scene and assisted. According to the report, “Israel for Israel was too intoxicated and could not follow instructions enough to complete the horizontal gaze nystagmus test.” Israel showed several clues of impairment during field sobriety tests. According to the report, “Israel attempted to use the AlcoSensor but was unable to get a reading due to him sucking on the tube. Israel was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI, driving without a valid license, passing vehicles in opposite directions/driving on the wrong side of the road, and failure to maintain lane.
