According to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on December 25th, 2021, at around 5:40 AM, Deputy Cheramie responded to an address on Indian Springs Road in reference to a suspicious person. The complainant advised the deputy she stated that a male, later identified as Rodney King Bearden, 42, was wearing a gray hoodie and khaki pants, tore her storm drain off of the house, which Deputy Cheramie observed laying on the ground in multiple pieces. According to the report, She then stated that he was looking into the windows of her car before walking to the next-door neighbor’s house and attempting to roll a large flower pot down the driveway. After talking with the woman, Deputy Cheramie observed Rodney behind a residence on Indian Springs in the woods. According to the report, “Deputy Cheramie then drew his service pistol and found the offender in the woods facing away without his hands visible. Deputy Cheramie told the offender multiple times to show his hands and to walk towards Deputy Cheramie with his hands up. Deputy Cheramie then grabbed the offender’s shirt with his left hand and pulled him out of the woods and onto the ground. Deputy Cheramie then gave the offender verbal commands to put his hands behind his back, and he was actively resisting.” While struggling with Rodney and attempting to gain control, Deputy Cheramie’s arms were ripped off of Rodney. Deputy Cheramie then hip-tossed Rodney back onto the ground. After a brief struggle with Rodney, the deputy was able to get him into custody. According to the report, While searching Rodney the deputy found a small clear bag with marijuana and methamphetamine concealed in the pocket of his blue jeans. Deputy Henry arrived on the scene and gathered Rodney’s information which came back with an active felony probation warrant through Catoosa County. Rodney was transported to the Catoosa County Jail. According to the report, “Once in the sally port, Rodney was being resistant and not wanting to get out of the back seat of the patrol car until Detention Officers came into the sally port. While Deputy Cheramie was booking Rodney in on the computers located in booking, Detention Officer Brumlow was attempting to take the offender’s belt off to be stored in property when the offender kicked him along with Officer Belue and Officer Gilreath. Deputy Cheramie assisted the Detention Officers with getting the offender to the ground so he could not kick anyone else. Rodney was then escorted into a holding cell. Rodney was charged with obstruction x2, possession of meth, possession of marijuana, criminal damage/trespass to property, and felony probation violation.
