According to a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office incident reports, on December 6th, 2021, 9:53 PM, Deputy Chris Clark, while on patrol, observed a male subject later identified as Kevin Max Thomas, 50, of Summerville, walking around several parked, unattended commercial trucks on the parking lot of Walmart located in Summerville. Deputy Clark reported, “The male subject seen my patrol vehicle approaching his location and turned around briskly walked around the front of another commercial truck. As [I] drove around the vehicle [I] observed the male subject walk behind the dumpster area of the Wendy’s Restaurant and step through the shrubs what was observed to be an attempt to elude. [I] approached the dumpster area from the front, intercepting the male subject’s path of travel.” According to the report, “Thomas stated he was just walking around claiming to be homeless. Thomas returned through GCIC with an active felony warrant out for his arrest. Deputy Clark reported, “During a weapons pat-down of his person, three large unopened packages containing a knife, and two multi-tools were found inside his waistband. He had a knife and multi-tool in his pockets that were out of the packages matching the ones in the unopened packages.” Deputy Clark would later view a video from Walmart showing that he had shoplifted the items from the establishment. Thomas was transported to the Chattooga County Jail, charged with the felony warrant, shoplifting, and loitering and prowling.
