Waycross woman arrested for DUI after early morning traffic stop for driving with no headlights on in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On August 14th, 2022, at 2:30 AM, Officer Miller observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Walnut Avenue with no headlights on while sitting stationary at West Walnut Ave and Walnut Place. Officer Bethune and Officer Miller were operating as a two-man team and initiated a traffic stop. Officers made contact with the driver, later identified as Hilary Leanne Sumner Harrison, 31, of Waycross, GA, and advised her of the reason for the stop. According to the report, “Hilary stated that it was, in fact, not her car, but it was the passenger’s car. The passenger was later identified as Brody Henderson. While speaking with Hilary, Officer Bethune observed a plastic baggie containing marijuana sitting in the vehicle’s center console. The suspected marijuana was confiscated and destroyed.” Officer Miller reported, “While [I] spoke with Hilary, [I] noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. At that point, [I] asked Hilary to step out of the vehicle. Officer Bethune asked Hilary how much she had to drink tonight, and she replied that she had not drunk any tonight, that she was actually the designated driver.” During field sobriety testing, Officer Bethune observed Hilary show several signs of impairment. Hilary was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Hilary was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BrAC of .146. Hilary was charged with DUI alcohol .08 grams or higher, and headlights required.
