Whitfield County Detention Officer dies from complications after contracting COVID-19

According to Officer Down Memorial Page, on Saturday, September 4th, 2021, Detention Officer Tara Cook, 42, of Tunnel Hill, passed away at Hamilton Medical Center from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 while working as the admissions officer for the Whitefield County Jail at 805 Professional Boulevard in Dalton. She was employed for four years with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Department. Tara had her Bachelors and Masters degree in Criminal Justice. She is survived by her husband, parents, brother, and sister. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.
