Woman arrested hours apart after asking for ride and then stealing donuts from gas station in Whitfield County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On April 8th, 2022 at approximately 4:14 AM, Trooper Cantrell and Cadet Stephens was stationary on GA-71 at mile marker 8 in VarnelI. Cadet Stephens reported, “[I] noticed a female walking south on GA-71 toward my location. The female stopped and asked if [I] would give her a ride. [I] asked for her license, and she freely and voluntarily gave them to me. The female was identified as Mrs. Keisha Nicole Brackett, 30, of Dalton. [I] check Mrs. Brackett through GCIC and she had a warrant out of Whitfield County.” The warrant for criminal trespass was confirmed as valid. Brackett was then transported to the Whitfield County Jail. According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, At 6:32 AM, Deputy McKenzie was dispatched to MAPCO located at 2112 Cleveland Highway in reference to a female shoplifting. The deputy arrived and spoke with the Mapco Employee who witnessed the incident. He then provided a clothing description (pink hat, black pants and gray long sleeve shirt) and that she left the Mapco on foot heading north on Cleveland Hwy.¬†According to the report, “Deputy McKenzie then traveled down Cleveland Hwy. and observed a female walking north bound matching the description given by the employee. Deputy McKenzie then stopped with the female near Cochran Drive and identified her as Ms. Keisha Brackett.” When questioned Brackett stated she took the donuts from Mapco without paying for them. She explained she told the employee she was going to come back at a later day and pay for the merchandise. Brackett did admit to the deputy eating the donuts. According to the report, “Deputy McKenzie then placed Ms. Brackett into custody for shoplifting. The employee stated, she came in and grabbed two Little Debbie mini donuts worth the total amount of $3.00. She then exited the store without paying and headed north on Cleveland Hwy.¬†Brackett was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where staff located two empty donut packs in her bra. According to the report, “The donut packs matched the description of the ones that were taken from the Mapco.” Bracket was charged with Theft by Shoplifting.
