Woman charged with 2nd-degree murder and child cruelty in connection with the death of her toddler in Walker County

According to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson, a woman has been indicted in connection with the death of her toddler daughter in June of last year. Kyla Ann Padgett, 24, of LaFayette, was booked into the Walker County Jail on Thursday charged with 2nd-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and cruelty to children. The sheriff said Little Rileigh Faith Padgett died while she, her mom, and an adult male were camping off Walnut Grove Road. The report indicated that the child died when her neck was caught in the vehicle’s rolled-up rear window. First responders were unable to revive her.
